Samsung's Project Beyond

Samsung's Project Beyond is a new 3D 360-degree camera by by Think Tank Team for recording virtual reality content for Galaxy Gear VR.

It can capture and stream omniview videos in stunning high-resolution 3D.

This is the Project Brief:

Today we offer a sneak preview of Project Beyond,the world’s first true 3D 360˚ omniview camera. Beyond captures and streams immersive videos in stunning high-resolution 3D, and allows every user to enjoy their viewing experience in the way they see fit. It offers full 3D reconstruction in all directions, using stereo camera pairs combined with a top-view camera to capture independent left and right eye stereo pairs. Project Beyond uses patent-pending stereoscopic interleaved capture and 3D-aware stitching technology to capture the scene just like the human eye, but in a form factor that is extremely compact. The innovative reconstruction system recreates the view geometry in the same way that the human eyes see, producing unparalleled 3D perception.

Project Beyond is not a product, but one of the many exciting projects currently being developed by the Think Tank Team, an advanced research team within Samsung Research America. This is the first operational version of the device, and just a taste of what the final system we are working on will be capable of. Once complete, we hope to deploy Project Beyond around the world to beautiful and noteworthy locations and events, and allow users to experience those locations as if they were really there.

The camera system can stream real time events, as well as store the data for future viewing. Although we won’t have the camera for sale immediately, the content generated from Project Beyond will be available to every Gear VR user immediately. This way, you will not have to wait to teleport around the world with your Gear VR.

With Project Beyond, the Gear VR will become a gateway to an ever-increasing pool of content that allows users to instantly teleport to places and events they always wanted to see. It frees the users of Gear VR from the limitations and rigors of physical travel, while providing a realistic experience that brings the nuances of an environment to the comfort of the living room.

NBA All-Star game 2015 will be available for Samsung Gear VR

There  was an NBA All-Star game on Feb 15, 2015. The NBA All-Star game is the game where the NBA’s best come together to showcase their skills and be recognized for their greatness.

NBA hired BigLook360 to shoot footage in a perspective fit for the Samsung Galaxy VR. The All-Star game, the Dunk Contest and the 3-point Shootout will be available on Samsung's Milk VR app.

No dates were announced but it will be available in a few weeks.

How to Enable Samsung GearVR on Exynos Note 4

HOW-TO ENABLE GEAR VR ON EXYNOS NOTE4

Just found an easy way how to make GearVR work on exynos Galaxy Note 4:

1. Go Settings->Storage-Used space->Applications-ALL

2. Find 'Gear VR SetupWizard'. (only working version for exynos is 1.0.24) you may have 1.0.28. Force stop it. and Uninstall

3. download version 1.0.24 from here:

4. copy all files to your note4 and install.

5. go Play Store and install 'QuickShortcut Maker'

6. open it and search for 'vr setup'. it will show you 'VR Setup Wizard' (without 'Stub' at the end). check version via 'App info'. must be 1.0.24. hit 'Try'. It will open setup windows.

7. install everything you need from oculus;

8. enjoy;

9. if oculus suggest you update later, DO NOT update, because it install 1.0.28 version of setupwizard, and everything stop working again.

I tested this on 3 phones. all worked ok. Sometimes phone screen flicker. To avoid this just hold back button on gearvr for enter service menu and then press REORIENT to go back. It work for me everytime.

My own phone is model SM-N910C and it worked fine!
